The House Theatre of Chicago staged a theatrical production (I won't call it a "musical") entitled "All the Fame of Lofty Deeds" that was based upon Langford's music (http://www.thehousetheatre.com/shows...f-lofty-deeds). We were at the premiere and were blown away by the show, which took Langford's songs (Waco Brothers, Pine Valley Cosmonauts and his solo projects) and set them in story concerning the rise and fall of a country singer. Before the show, the writer, the director and Langford discussed the production with host Peter Segal (of NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me").

Other singer-songwriter favorites of mine include John Prine, Todd Snider, Robbie Fulks and Neko Case.

I will also confess to liking Paula Cole despite my general avoidance of Lilith Fair-type music. I've seen her four times and she is a powerful singer and very capable pianist (although, she used to play guitar, clarinet, bass drum and castenets during her shows). She puts on a very entertaining show.
