I’d have to agree with you...it does look very old man but so does most tweeds. The only tweed that I can think of that does not make you look old is purple tweed ;-)

No, seriously, whether it's good for him or not depends on what he wants, at what price.

Knock-off fabric collections matter the least with the simplest things, like cotton trouser fabrics. Recall Evelyn Waugh writing that you needed a first-rate tailor for complex things, but only a third-rate tailor for the simple things (like trousers). You may choose contemporary tailors (and clothiers) and their fabric books in the same way.

I'm continuing my research into formal wear before I pull the trigger on anything, and I've been thinking a lot about navy velvet.

The question is, what to do there ...

- Notch lapel single breasted?
- Peak lapel single breasted two button? One button?
- Shawl lapel double breated?

Hmmm.

My tailor insists I should get something in velvet that I can also wear as a suit (i.e. navy velvet pants). I could pull it off in NYC but not sure I want to lol.

Shawl DB for velvet, imo. Absolutely no ******* chance with the pants lol.
