The covert suit is sorta like the winter version of Solaro.. suity but kinda casual at the same time and highly polarizing of opinions. Also the twill kinda gives a similar iridescence.

no man walks alone has some rtw whipcord trousers. the yarn is tightly spun and then it's woven into a hard finished twill. like all hard finished worsteds, it'll shine up more easily than a woolen. but i dont think it's shiny or iridescent in real life. really, it's just like a tailored version of jeans (but much softer).

for guys who wear through trousers quickly, these can be a good option since it's typically harder wearing than flannel

Does anyone have experience with Lovat's Ettrick bunch? There are some amazing colors/patterns, but it's a whopping 21oz and I'm wondering if that works well as a SC that has at least some function indoors...

The London Lounge uses that bunch for some of its subscriptions.

I have a baby camelhair overcoat thats 16 oz, so the thought of a 21 oz sportcoat worn indoors makes me start to sweat. I am sure people who have a lower sweat response than I do would be fine, but it mentions a Teflon coating and I wonder how that impacts the breathe-ability.

The Ettrick is more for that English country outerwear-- stuff for shooting birds in the rain. The Kirkton and Teviot bunches are great for sport coats. I've got cloth from each being made up right now.

you mean irl? coverts ive seen have all been matte. have a couple of whipcord trousers and they're matte

By iridescence I don’t mean a sheen. I mean that color change, rippley effect you get with some twills with warp and weft threads in highly contrasting colors. Indeed even Smiths Solaro is quite matte. Some coverts I’ve seen do this more than others depending on the contrast in colors in the cloth.

Hm, I don't get either in my whipcords, either the shine or the ripple effect. It's just a twill like denim.
