While visiting Steven Hitchcock today, I browsed through an Escorial Book and came across this fabric that appealed to me very much:

This is actually the back of the swatch, as I was taking a picture of the label. It was a lovely warm tan-to-french-mustard brown barleycorn pattern. To my surprise, the mill was not Joshua Ellis but Standeven. I was not familiar with Standeven prior to this morning. Has anyone any experience using their stuff, and especially their Escorial cloth?

The raw material is from the goats of Mongolia / Inner Mongolia (North of China)

    Thank you for your answer.
Is this considered a more exclusive cashmere than the "regular" cashmere?

They are now under the same group. The qualities of their Escorial (the woollen ones) are very similar.

China is the largest producer of cashmere in the world and the qualities of the raw material vary a lot. I can't really tell you as I am not familiar with the Colombo cashmere.

Standeven is the retail arm of William Halstead. I have not used their Escorial but their mohair mix and open weave wool Explorer cloths are great.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a medium weight cream tweed? I've got swatches for light grey Donegals and light grey herringbones - but nothing in cream. It's got to be plain, without checks or patterns (the herringbone is too much really).

    Thanks in advance.

I have a suit in Standeven high twist cloth.

    Excellent. I recommend their cloths.

    A herringbone, but very discreet.

I believe they had a Escorial/Mohair blend, if I'm recalling correctly, that looked absolutely fabulous.

From the quotation I got from one of the Mills (other than Lovat) that LL used, I don't think the numbers are off, the numbers are pretty right.
How Alden do business is none of my business.
I just telling the information I got.
I organized group purchase with little margin also, as some of the members know.
However, We are in a free market, the customers also have the right to know the "real" information, I think.

I should modify my response, the mill price should be EXW, not including shipping and handling.
BTW, I still have the quotation from the mills back to 10yrs+ ago, I don't think the mills price has increased more than 10% till 2015. The price in recent 2 years getting up much faster.

    Dear @suffolk,

First of all, I think you need to clarify the use of the fabric; suit, SC, trousers?

Perhaps, Drapers / VBC might be a good idea to check if something is of your taste; at any rate, they are medium weight all right.

BTW, which mill's light grey swatches have you got? Can you share some images of the ones that you find of most interest?

    Cheers,

    Dimitris
