Unexplained bald spot in beard

I'm 24 years old and have been growing a nice, full, thick beard since it started coming in at around age 18. I always kept it shaved because of the jobs I had, but when I finally got the chance to let it grow I did and it was great. Id get complimented on how nice it looked all the time. Well last year when I was 23, around the Thanksgiving time of the year my fiancé wanted me to shave for some pictures. Up til then I had been keeping it around a quarter of an inch in length and wasn't completely shaving at all. But for this occasion I got clean shaven. I began to notice that my beard wasn't growing back full and that in one spot on one side of my jawline, I had a spot about the size of a golden dollar. Well I figured it would fill back in and didn't worry about it. I didn't shave after those pictures for 6 months. My beard was at least 3 inches long. So long that you could not see that spot unless you dug down and looked for it. Well when summers hot weather came I broke down and shaved my masterpiece, only to find that the spot had gotten bigger. (About 2.5" x 1.5" circle)
What is going on here? Its embarrassing to have had such a nice beard now everyone looks at the spot and asks about it. The only way its not as noticeableis if iI shave every other day.
And the spot isn't completely bald. There is hair there, its just lighter in color and way less coarse then the rest of my beard. What's going on? Will it every be the same? Should I divorce my wife who made me shave in the first place? Please help.

I had that for a few years. It's a form of alopecia. No doctor suggested that I treated it as they said it was stress-induced. Eventually it went away.

Don't know that it's the most helpful answer...

Several years. It's going to change size, shape. Even location possibly.

I was told to exercise and try to get rid of excess work-related stress.

One day it was gone

Was this just a one time thing or has it happened multiple times? You didn't notice the hair gradually coming back? It was just back all at once?

It gradually grew back and filled up the spot. Hard to really notice when it's gradual

That's probably alopecia areata. Steroid injections might cause regrowth.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
