1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

These don't count as "unexpected encounters", but I saw Richard Branson, Colin Powell and Jeffrey Imelt give talks at a conference a couple of weeks ago.

Saw Rangers reliever Mike Adams at the restaurant where I was eating on Saturday night. Mind you this was 24 hours after the Rangers completed an epic collapse going 2-8 over their last 10 games to get bounced in the Wildcard game so I wasn't in a great mood re: any of our players. But I did shake his hand discreetly (nobody else appeared to recognize him since he's not exactly Josh Hamilton, and he was at a dark booth facing away from the restaurant) and gave him the "get em next year" pep talk. Nice guy. Hot woman with him (big surprise).

Jim Adkins of Jimmy Eat World has his kids at the same school as mine and I see him all the time at Dad's Club meetings and school events.

I shared a table with him at a wonton soup place on Mott St. last year. He just walks in like a fucking boss takes off his jacket and orders wonton pork soup asks if he can sit at my table and starts a conversation with me. Yup he's probably 5'8" at best (even with shoes on), but still commands a room. A couple judges walked by and glad handed him. I love NYC when things like that happen.

Meanwhile, not too far from there, the previous commissioner looked in his best shape ever

I see Woody Paige every once in a while in our shared elevator banks. Also saw him failing at picking up college girls at a dive bar last summer.

He is as gruff, depressed, and depressing as you would imagine...and then some.

When I advise students about graduate school, I always tell them that seminars are like Around the Horn: they are shows of competitive conversation. Although there's no button that adds or subtracts points, points are nonetheless added and subtracted in an ongoing way.

I guess you don't watch Around the Horn. Or other pundit run sports shows. I can't blame you.

Edit: In response to Woody Paige. Who the fuck Margaret Carlson is, however, remains a mystery to us all.

I work with somebody with the last name "Oh". I am going to ask them if they are related.
