Undershirt length, like guesswork

Is there any general agreement here on the length of the various brands of undershirts under $20? For example, many of them are very long, but Jos. A. Bank undershirts are rather short. Because packages are sealed, there is no way to tell, and underwear cannot be returned. Probably it's one of the reasons that many men do not wear undershirts.

I have had awful luck. Merona, Polo small are good and form fitting but too short for me.

Brooks Brothers ($15 per) are good, long undershirts.

nothing like that feeling of having a too short undershirt underneath your tucked in dress shirt, so that the undershirt cannot be tucked in but free riding up your backside inside your dress shirt.
i hate that un neat feeling.

or that tingling /itching feeling of a blade of hair or two clinging inside your undershirt inside your dress shirt and scratching it will not make it go away, you have to go to the bathroom stall and take off your clothes to get rid of that blade of hair.

2xist seem to be cut on the long side, pretty much requiring that you tuck them in.

I thought that tucking them in was the point in this context. I have been very disappointed in the quality of 2xist shirts. They get all misshapen very fast in my experience.

I hate those hairs in the collars. Someone should invent a whisker-repellant t-shirt collar. They'd make a mint.

Well, I often wear polo shirts untucked, and I don't like to tuck in the undershirt in this case because it is too long. Which 2xist shirts did you buy? The ones from Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and C21 are different from those sold at the department stores.

Understood. but I'd assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that the OP was looking for long undershirts so he could tuck them in under dress shirts and they'd stay tucked, instead of forming that little roll just above the belt.

The ones I got were from STP, so I don't know their original provenance. Interesting that you say they're different between the discount stores and the department stores; that seems a dubious branding strategy, but what makes you say that, and why do you suppose they do it?

Well, first, the packaging is completely different. The ones are Marshalls come in three packs of plastic. The "real" ones I bought at Nordstroms come individually packaged in little cardboard boxes. Also, the fabric feels completely different. The ones at Marshalls feel like normal cotton shirts. The others are a very fine, stretchy cotton, much more luxurious to the touch. This difference is mentioned in some other posts about undershirts, as well. Also, the price is different. The original price of the 3-packs is ~$30 (I believe) while the individually packaged ones are close to $20 a piece.

on 2(x)ist, coachvu is correct

the individually boxed 2(x)ist product is completely different from the three-pac plastic wrapped ones you get at discounters (although discounters often have the boxed ones available as well)

however, regardless of which 2(x)ist i buy, i don't find the collars hold up well, they do get all stretchy

i also find barco from greece to be an excellent inexpensive choice, good thick cotton, long body, excellent thick collars (almost double in thickness)

i also find calida and the basic entry schiesser (uncover line) product to offer great long body product with excellent collars at around $25

I tried 2xist via Sierra Trading Post and I think they were made for someone 5'6", 125 lbs. I may be 5-10 lbs overweight @ 5'11", 185 lb. but these were tight in the arms and too short. They also mutated in the neck immediately.

The best t-shirts I've found are from JCPenney (and Land's End - although I like Penney's the best). I thought paying more meant a better shirt but not with 2exist. Never tried Brooks Bros.

I bought 2xist boxer briefs and they were very small also. (bought from the Bon Ton)

Hmm... I'm finally getting some real answers here. (I'm 6'1 and Medium is never long enough.) However, I don't know if I'd pay more for an undershirt than I do my regular t-shirts.

You can still find the "real" 2xist shirts on sale. I've seen them at FB, and Nordstrom should have them on sale the day after Christmas.

It sounds like some brands of undershirts are sized differently for different markets, geographic or otherwise.

Gap is about average length, by the way, and some Polo undershirts are very long.

The main purpose of the question was to be able to safely give recommendations to clients. (The company strongly encourages the use of undershirts.) Thanks for the answers, although it appears that one can never be sure about some brands.

I don't live anywhere near a Nordstrom... and what's FB? Thanks anyways though.
