As Mr. Colbert so adeptly put it several months back:

"A well-made suit creates the illusion of a physique."

(or something VERY close to that)

The post earns the award for "most obvious post by a troll." However, I suggest a list: Top 10 reasons to care about one's dress. Here's some of my own proposals for the list:

    - People make assumptions about me based on how I look. I care to mold those assumptions.
    - I feel better about myself when I feel good about my appearance
    - I feel physically more comfortable in clothing that fits well
    - The "idle time" spent ironing my own shirt or polishing my own shoes is really like quiet meditation time.
    - I appreciate knowing why we wear what we wear, without being a mere lemming to fashion.

    Any other ideas?

I think that one reason people may be really into dressing very nicely is because they are physically unattractive. But, there are other insecurities that could cause people to be deeply concerned with the way they dress. For example, growing up poor and blue-collar might cause someone to become really concerned with dress when they later become wealthier and white collar so as to "cover up" their former selves and exude an image of "fitting in." As a breath-takingly handsome man and SFer, I'd like to know who the hell is so ugly that they're pulling the curve down! [IMG] C'mon. I want names.

Why are you looking at me? Uhm. Do I have something on my face? Err...DON'T LOOK AT ME DAMN IT!

Probably one of the more interesting discussions I've read on the board.

Yes, I confess, I'm pulling the rest of you down with my ugly.[IMG]
We're all indebted to you for pulling the mean "attractiveness" score down and thus allowing the rest of us to move up relative to the mean.[IMG]

Well, sometimes trolling (if that's really what it is, I'm not so sure) can actually lead to content[IMG] [IMG] Important (well, fact): A man can have a very ugly face, and not lose one single point in life for it, with the right attitude (brains, taste, charm, confidence, etc.). * Facial ugliness (which is what I suppose we're really discussing) isn't really that much of a big deal for men. Women with ugly faces suffer far more for it.
