^If I know one thing about Wal-Mart, it's that it DOESN'T have a sense of humor. From the rather "aggressive" way they push themselves into markets to the "edited" music to keep our dear virgin ears safe... they take themselves VERY seriously.

Do you guys have Wal-mart in Australia, btw?

I should edit that, I was calling Rach and Brian assholes.

And I thank god that we do not have Wallmart here in Japan. I dont think it would fly personally, as the government protects small businesses pretty heavily (as well as Huge corporations, so long as they originate from said country).

Yep... small mom'n'pops and the gigantic Zaibatsu... Japan's xenophobic model for economic success!!

Though I think they'll keep walmart out (hopefully!), this model will have to change, soon. When China and Korea are allowing massive foreign investment and encouraging it, Japan's got to realize soon that it's "We Don'T Need You Barbarians!" approach isn't going to move them along in the 21st century.

And, can we be friends again if I tell you that your yukata Obi matches your eyes in the sunset???

Evil corporation or not, I miss the convenience of the Super WalMart. When your time is limited, its nice to be able to drop into one place for an hour and find everything you need.

I have to agree with VKK3450. Unfortunately, there are many conviniences 'big box' stores have to offer. We have Super Walmart AND Super Target here in California and many of them are open 24 hours a day. I've become so accustom to it I'm shocked when I go someone and cannot buy baby diapers, a whole chicken, headphones, an automobile jack, a cheap suit, and rifle ammunition at 2:00 A.M.

Actually, you do (cue "Twilight Zone" music...).

WalMart owns the Seiyu retail chain and for the past 6-7 years it has been moving Seiyu over to the WalMart model of business. That doesn't - well, not yet at least - include the "big box" store model, but Seiyu has been largely brought into the fold in terms of management techniques, inventory management etc.

In regard to Australia, there is no WalMart here.
However, there is a CostCo opening (or has it just opened?) in Melbourne.

I had no clue. Seiyu may be owned by walmart but doesnt feel like walmart. The ones that I have seen are pretty small and dont have that great of selection or prices for that matter. There are times that I wish there was a target or something near by though. I mean Tokyu Hands is great for random ****, but there isnt one near my host family's station.
There is a Costco somewhere around here, but I have yet to go, and have no reason to go.
