Have any?

I've done the usual:

- drink massive amounts of water and/or Gatorade before retiring.
- one or two asprins the day after (but never acetyminophen <Tylenol> as it can damage your already sensitive liver).
- a multi-vitamin and protein/fat rich breakfast if I can stomach it -- a good old fashioned English fry-up.

A friend recommends taking amino acid supplement cysteine (n-acetylcysteine) and ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) to get rid of acetylhyde -- he claims it's what causes hangovers (after dehydration and lack of sleep). Egg yolks are rich in cysteine.

Any other surefire remedies?

I've heard Chaser works very well, but never tried it myself.

I drink a ton of water before I go to sleep. Wake up several times throughout the night, and drink a bunch of water when I do. Eating a couple oranges and a banana in the morning also helps me.

Can't remember if it is Motrin or Asprin but I have a friend who used to take one of those the next day after a hangover and it ended up eating away his stomach lining and now he can't drink or eat certain foods for many years.

Actually, better than just plain water would be drinking massive amounts of any kind of diuretic. Iced tea works really well because the caffeine acts as a diuretic that speeds up the rate of urine excretion from the body. Cranberry juice is another diuretic that works well. Drinking massive amounts of either of these will work a lot better than just drinking massive amounts of water. However, you have to make sure the drink ALOT of them. If you drink too little it might actually make things worse because of dehydration. After a night of heavy drinking I'll usually drink a 2 liter bottle of iced tea. Then again, I'm not really prone to hangovers anyway.

A bartender's guide I used to have recommended to eat one slice of plain toast if you wake up with a hangover. It has worked for me.

The thread title sounds like one of those trite seasonal Men's Health cover lines. It probably already is.

Water; before, during, after.

The next morning eat a large pickle, followed ten minutes later by much water.

This would really scare me, due to the dehdration that you mention. Since loss of fluids is one of the main causes of the hurt, why would lots of diuretic help?? Having a hard time wrapping my head around that

Ive done the following and they all seem to work:

-Gatorade and Advil before bed.
-A glass of water after every/every two alcoholic drinks.
-A beer or two the next day.

Tried that, sorry - doesn't do it for me, unless I'm driving. Then it's OJ and tonic water until I need caffeine.

I've always gone with gatorade or powerade. Works way better than straight water. Ordering two large pizzas at 3 or 4 in the morning can help too haha.
