Chaps,

Originally posted on the AaQ thread, but no joy. I have a question regarding MTM (with particular reference to UK).

I am wanting to get a couple of new workhorse suits; nothing fancy as they will get regular action on the daily commute. I have some bespoke suits from Tom Brown and a few Cordings off the peg suits that I have had altered and have tended to use the latter for normal city wear and the former when something more stylish is called for.

I have recently moved and have found a local menswear shop that does what they describe as 'personal tailoring' and, on enquiry I have discovered it is MTM from Wensum and they have a pretty good selection of bunches, including a Dugdale book that looks quite tempting value.

I have never done MTM before and it will clearly be inferior to my Tom Brown suits, but is it worth the extra £200 per suit (which is roughly the difference) compared with my normal route for workhorse suits of buying decent OTR and altering? If the Wensum quality is good then I would feel happier in principle having MTM but I don't know anyone who has used the service before so am a bit in the dark. Any thought would be welcome before I just pull the trigger on a test run.

Thanks...

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
