UBS Wardrobe code of conduct - corporate bland

The Swiss banking group UBS has taken upon itself to specify the clothing and general grooming of employees.

http://74.207.250.248/UBS_Dress_Code_2010.pdf (3.9MB)

From dictating only black socks (even with blue suits), mandatory belts, T-shirts under business shirts, to requiring management approval for polo shirts, this promotes business bland & sartorial mediocrity.

UBS thankfully allows you to remove your jacket in hot weather. "Our charisma contributes a mere 78% of the impression we make." - wonder if they sell that at Harrods?

I didn't even make it as far as the text, this crazy ***** on p.7 stopped me cold:

I wonder if she's undertaking physical labour and therefore finds herself allowed to wear "special underwear!"

Old thread on this very topic: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=214312

To be truthful, as dubious as some of the prescriptions in this guide are, it would probably easily improve the average dress of employees anywhere, let alone UBS.

Who has to wear Corporate Wear?
"¢\t All personnel working at Reception
"¢\t All personnel working at the Customer Information desk/
Safe Deposit
"¢\t Event attendants
"¢\t Security staff
"¢\t All personnel working in Limousine Service

Didn't read the whole thing, but it seems it's not really aimed at the corporate staff?

None of the friends I have at UBS have had any complaints.

I fortunately work at a firm where I'm given great flexibility in how I dress, the oldies give me grief at times if i wear a olive suit that dangle. But I understand when I have meetings with clients I have to tone it down and adjust to their perceptions

This English UBS document appears to be significantly different than the French document referenced at http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=214312 . The English document discusses "Corporate Wear" which is "property of UBS and must be returned to UBS by the employee on leaving employment". There is apparently a single style of suit, three colors of shirts, and a tie and belt are also provided. Shoes, socks and underwear are not provided. On the other hand, the French document talks about general dress code, and does not mention a UBS-provided uniform. As PregnantBob points out, the English Corporate Wear document does not appear to be applicable to every UBS employee.

The UBS Corporate Wear suit is anthracite, according to the document.
