So you go from sneakers+jeans to a suit? Try this: dress shirt, khakis, and nice dress shoes.

Try to avoid the jeans but they will hardly refuse you admission if you can't. ties and jackets not needed.

This is a student visit for the bank to advertise itself you nothing up market is expected or needed.

How about a suit with a tie?

That would not be consistent with the instructions to dress "smart casual."

Smart casual is a bullshit dress code. Wear a suit and tie. Dress codes be dammed. Better to be overdressed than under.

sports jacket and a button down shirt is a bare minimum.

The person hiring u in future might be meeting with the students, you won't want to screw that up.

I find this absolutely amazing. Maybe because I had to wear blazers throughout high school but if you are going into a professional environment as a guest and are told smart casual, how do you arrive at jeans+shirt+sneaker? What is dress down for you?

Wrong. The corporate dress code at UBS is business casual. As someone who works in finance, it's important to understand that superficial conformity is key. Nothing will attract more negative attention than being overdressed. It looks like you're trying too hard, or that you think you're better than everybody else.

To the OP: button up shirt, khakis / slacks, decent pair of leather soled lace up shoes will be fine. A sportcoat is probably a good idea because your shirts are likely a little too garish or casual-looking for the environment, and because it's a subtle way to make you look a little older -- in case you're hoping this leads to a job contact.

    Good luck!

Yeah but i think he said this was for investment banking so their dress code would be a bit more formal
