Ok, I am younger but I have always loved the look of the fedora. I am not talking about the canvas type that can be found at Target or Wal-mart for five to ten dollars either. They do have their place, but they lack a certain element of class. What I am referring to are the styles worn by Alain Delon, Humphrey Bogart, Robert Mitchum, Dick Powell, and others.
There is a specific type I had in mind, but I do not know the correct terms for it. The hat has a nice thick band above the brim, usually with a bow on one side. The top is circular in the back and pinched in the front, leaving two dents on either side. The brim is usually low. The best way to describe the hat is kind of like the one worn in the film Le Samourai.
As far as material goes I am not certain which way is the best way to go. I know I cannot afford some of the more expensive brands, but was wondering what type to look for when I can. Also what is the best material? Is a crushable fedora any good? I would appreciate your thoughts. Also what is an affordable, yet nice brand? I do not care about the name, just how it looks and the quality.

The best material is mostly nitrogen with a bit of oxygen thrown in for good measure.
