I guess that explains why you never see them...I was hoping there was some social occasion I could come up with to justify a pair.

They're good for parties. I wouldn't wear them to a wedding or funeral. I've found brown-family two tone shoes more useful with casual clothes, but black and whites are great with a dark gray suit.

Black and white spectators are also popular with swing dancers, I hear tell.

I have a pair of Allen-Edmonds Belmonts in black and white (what some people call a "lawn blucher). I don't wear them often, two or three times a year at most, but then they only cost me $79.

When a spectator shoe is to be worn, I much prefer brown and white or tan and white.

I guess people are still buying them, because I see them in stores from time to time.

I own a couple of pairs of AE Broadstreets, and I love them! I wear them to weddings, dinner dances, other social events, and I get nothing but compliments. I think they have been dicontinued in the "broadstreet" style. Good luck hunting.

Manton had a gorgeous pair of bespoke G&G brown/white spectator wing tips made...perhaps he can chime in...especially since he invested the money for bespoke

I think brown & white are arguably more versatile, but black & white are certainly wearable. I wear my brown & white spectators to parties, the odd group trip to a restaurant and they'll be good for a summer trip to the seaside. They're not shoes you'd wear too often, but they're fun.

I love my AE McClains, in bourbon and bone calf but, as pointed out be an earlier poster, they get worn perhaps six time a year. Definitely a summer shoe, though I have worn them on additional occasions and during cooler periods of the year to ballroom dance classes with my wife.

I have several pairs. The most worn are Churchs in Brown and Tan. They get worn with almost anything I would wear a brown shoe with. Those and the black and white AEs and a cheap pair of B&Ws get worn on stage. As a regulary giging jazzer they are very cool stage shoes.
