My wife and I are falling in love with Shiraz this winter. We had an unctuous bottle of 2007 Two Hands' Angel's Share the other day. Any comments on the Angel's Share or any of their higher-end stuff? We are opening an '05 Dead Arm on Valentines day, and I'm curious to compare.

Craneford is an excellent producer of the aussies, as is "first class" by whoever makes the "boarding pass" series of shirazes.

on the value side, "the gatekeeper" is an excellent pick at $15 or less.

Thanks, gomestar. I've seen the Boarding Pass but haven't tried it--yet.

I like the Boarding Pass a lot - but the First Class is just a step above, really well done. I like some of the OZ wines from Marquis Phillips, but lately they've been extremely hot, pushing 16% at times.

Another one I've come to like is Possums Vineyard Shiraz. I had it a long time ago, back before I enjoyed a good Shiraz, and I "got" the OZ Shiraz thing after this one as it was much more mellow than some of the fruit and smoke/tar bombs I've had before it (the only exception would be Gramery Cellars Syrah from Washington State - lovely).

Pretty much anything by Two Hands is a safe bet. Two Hands Bella's Garden is excellent. The Dead Arm you are saving for Valentine's Day should be well liked, I have never had a bad bottle! There is a Grenache by Fireblock (about $20) that is great.
