The only good use I have found is to locate mobile taco trucks.

From a Marketing/PR perspective. You always want to have your client in the back of peoples heads, with some sort of news about the company. This is a great tool without having to write a whole press release..just a 1-line blurb.

I ocasionally update my facebook status...I suppose that is kind of like twitter

that being said, I have never had an interest in having a twitter account.

They are like texts for everybody to see?

Why would want to tell and/or care about what a particular person is doing at any given moment?

This doesn't matter. As long as people think they actually matter, then people will use it in droves.

This is the best way to describe it I've yet seen. People were pretty interested in it during the election cycle, and certainly it could be useful for a traveling sandwich truck to keep potential customers apprised of their location. Beyond that though, unless it becomes particularly widely adopted (a la Facebook - ubiquitous, really), I don't think it will be around long. The people I'm following currently don't have a lot of particular interest to say.

I signed up for an account, did a contacts database import to see how many people I new were on twitter, out of 1300 total contacts, maybe 20 were on twitter and maybe 1/3 of them were worth following....so I decided not to keep up with it.

that's how I feel, with Facebook and Facebook mobile status updates, what's the point of twitter?

I've made several deliberate attempts to understand twitter, but my tiny ADD brain just simply can not grasp it.

Twitter seems to work out well if you're... say... a huge fan of Apple and want up to the second updates of what's going on at Macworld or an iPod release. Or some type of marketing tool for a business. I am completely lost on how it could be used for personal use in a positive way. I update my Facebook status possibly once a day, and I think that's too much. Why do I need to have 20 updates from a person in one day? A guy I used to work with is one of those types with Twitter. I wonder how he get's anything done in a day.
