Tuxedo/Suit shirts for wedding - gingham?!

Hi There,

I had the idea for my fiance and groomsmen (or perhaps only the groomsmen), I want to do something different for their shirts or ties..I really love gingham shirts and thought it would be funky to have a very light coloured gingham shirt?!

The colours that I am doing for the bridesmaids are in the blush and neutral tones..most likely will do different dresses in the same colour or even different dresses in different but complimenting colours (such as neutrals, blush, cream/taupe). I think I would keep the groomsmens shirts all the same colour, either a pale pink or a pale grey.. I do want some uniformity to it...

What are your thoughts on doing a gingham shirt under a suit/tux??

I've always thought of gingham as leaning twords casual, and think it would be inappropriate for a wedding. Especially with a tux.

Well I was thinking more of on the lines of a suit..I don't think I'd do a tux...

Okay, well maybe what I am envisioning isn't coming across clearly or maybe its an awful idea! lol the shirts wouldn't be loud at all or would really stand out too much at all, its actually quite subtle.... I've seen it done before and really liked it, maybe I can find a picture to post... or maybe I will go with what I want and not worry about what others think

After all, it is my wedding so if I want it to be Project Runway, so be it!

But I do appreciate your opinions! I have some time so I will give it some more thought...my wedding won't be super formal..

Gingham with a tux would be a travesty, just don't do it.

It could work with a suit, especially for a less formal summer or spring wedding. I went to one recently where the groomsmen had on gingham shirts and it was a great look, much better than the usual wedding dreck. The groom had a solid shirt as I recall.

Yes, I was also thinking a suit...and like you said, I have also seen it and liked it. I guess I just wanted someone to tell me it looked good

It's a summer wedding.... I don't want a formal tux look, something more casual and fun..

I was replying to Gebonius.

Do you have a picture from the wedding you went to? What colour were the gingham shirts and you said the Groom had on a solid white shirt?

The "no gingham" crowd has been heard; I'll let you make that call.

If you decide to go with something other than white, blue, or pink, please consider that pale grey is a tough color for many people to pull off. I have a medium complexion and pale grey completely washes me out.
