Tuxedo Peak v. Shawl Driving Me Insane...

I'm at the do or die point right now, less than 2 months to the wedding and need to take care of the tux, I plan on having mine made, have the tailor pretty much picked out, definitely single button, no vent, just need to make up my mind on lapels. The tailor I'm going to did the tux in picture 1, I like it a lot and am thinking about having virtually the same thing done, but I want this tux to last a lifetime and I'm concerned the narrow looking peak lapels could end up going out of style. As an alternative, the 2nd picture of a Polo tux has a more "lasting" peak lapel that I can dig. I'm not a fan of the large, really sharp peak lapels and that's definitely not what I'm going for. At the same time I love the narrowness of the shawl lapel in the diagram, but I just feel its a lot harder to pull off.

Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

NO NOTCH LAPEL! Shawl is as fine as peaked.

I'm at the exact same point as you are. Having a tux made but can't decide between a peak and a shawl (can't afford both). I'm leaning toward the peak, though, as I think it's a little more classic and less fashion-forwardy. The lapels are going to be slim but not too slim, somewhere between your first and second pics.

All y'all wanting tuxedos that are classic and not fashion-forward, best get normal width peaks not slim ones. Or get normal width shawl collar.

Definitely no notch, that's not even in the equation. I do love the shawl, but the thing that's discouraging me is for every 1 picture I can find of a good one, there are at least 10 of downright ugly looking ones.

Just have him duplicate THE tuxedo (in link) with peak lapels, nothing too thin (trendy). Classic is always in.

Thanks for the link, that definitely is what a tux should look like, sort of falls in between the sharp/soft and wide/narrow issues, that may just be perfect.

I would get a peak, if only because your tailor will then have to make you a low-cut waistcoat. I'd get a peak myself but you can't get off-the-rack black tie waistcoats anywhere. So I have to go with the shawl and cummerbund combination. Which I still like.

I just picked up a peak lapel DJ and it's fantastic. I've tried on quite a few shawl jackets as well and they just didn't seem to work for me.

I need to go about finding some nice formal shoes and perhaps get a waistcoat made.

I would trust only the best tailors to execute a handsome shawl. So many bad shapes are possible.

Unless your tailor is really, really good, I wouldn't consider a shawl at all.

It also depends on your build.

There was a supremely nice Dolce and Gabbana shawl collar jacket in black that was just a hair small on me that I still want. Maybe I'll go get it and have it altered. It was exceptional.
