So strolling around the village today, I found myself in the Tommy Hilfiger shop and noticed his patent loafers which I'll likely buy at the end of the week. I have an outfit built around it already (keeping it basic white and black then popping it with a wine colored blazer) but my only trouble is the socks. I have a plum purple in mind (which might require some kind of detailed search) but does anyone have any ideas of what color I can finish this off with?

Wine colored blazer w/ white PS (TV fold of course)
White shirt (black bowtie optional)
Black skinny jeans
Black patent loafers

What makes them "tuxedo", just the patent?

Don't wear jeans with patent shoes because the shoes are too formal.

I totally think you can dress them down. Rules were meant to be broken don't ya know?

With that ensemble, I would go with orange socks...or maybe clear.

Umm these are clearly sneakers not dress shoes.

Your call, but I mean while your breaking rules you may as well wear a black tuxedo jacket and bowtie with jeans...oh wait...

the way I picture your outfit seems nice. Keep the socks simple. You already have enough going on, dont overkill it!

I go by the "rules of two", meaning 2 bold colors or prints or accessories (I apply this rule to dressing women too for the most part) so since I'm deciding to keep everything plain Jane, I think it would just work (not to mention being bold and different, Milanese style) and when it gets warmer, I'll nix the socks

You are being different with the jeans and the color of jacket. I dont think its neccesary to wear bold socks. The first think I thought of was to go sockless too but not in this weather. Warmer weather is around the corner

^ +1.

I'd go with really dark charcoal grey socks (maybe with small dot pattern). So there's a little bit of contrast transition between black trouser and black shoe.

plum purple socks is cool with the above attire, but without the wine colored blazer.

if you wear that blazer, go with black socks.
