Tomatos and tomahtos.

Business suit is modern American English.

Lounge suit is the traditional British term. Sack suit is the more traditional American term.

Not too keen on the "sack suit".

If the guy is remembered for nothing else it should be for saying this.

I would suggest a stroller as this is correct daytime semi-formal dress.

+1, Great post Sator.

I assume you call a stroller a Stresemann in Austria as they do in Germany - and a morning coat (cutaway in American English) a Cut?

Or is it more like Tomaten und Paradiese rather than tomatoes and tomahtoes!

Thanks for all the input again.

Stroller it is; now where to get one in NYC.

Any suggestions for obtaining the jacket (rent?) I do not foresee needing it again. Charcoal grey ok? I like the first jacket you have pictured Sator

Any specific styling on the pants I should be aware of? Flat front light grey stripped pants?

Tie- Grey or black? Any other color? I want to bring some light green into the picture if possible.

Shirt- White collar, what about the rest?

Thanks everyone for your input.

Maybe in NYC you can find some nice rentals. I am yet to see a rental that isn't made of cheap material or hasn't been dry cleaned a hundred times.

Yeah I want to avoid renting but I also can not justify spending 1k+ on something to wear once. I wonder if Burberry could help me. I can get a very steep discount on MTM suit jackets and trousers but I always thought their coats and other offerings had subpar fabrics/construction and are WAY overpriced. Maybe the MTM stuff is better? Anyone have any experience?

Not at all. A stroller, in my eyes, is the "typical" American wedding suit, I know from movies or TV Series like Dallas, Dynasty etc.

It is more fashion forward then a Stresemann.

I found a very good excerpt for the Stresemann(only in German)

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stresemann

I would say:
Duke of Windsor - Stresemann
Prince of Wales - Modern version, although the jacket reminds me of a frock coat

But still Gehrock for me is the umbrella term for, morning coat or cut, Stresemann, redingote, frock coat

Wonder what Roetzel says...

PS: I didn't get the tomatos to tomahtoes thing!?

It's about the Gershwin brothers song, "Let's call the whole thing off", it goes

You say either and I say either, You say neither and I say neither
Either, either Neither, neither, Let's call the whole thing off.

You like potato and I like potahto, You like tomato and I like tomahto
Potato, potahto, Tomato, tomahto, Let's call the whole thing off

But oh, if we call the whole thing off Then we must part
And oh, if we ever part, then that might break my heart

So if you like pyjamas and I like pyjahmas, I'll wear pyjamas and give up
pyajahmas
For we know we need each other so we , Better call the whole off off
Let's call the whole thing off.

The reference is to the fact that you get different pronounciations of 'tomato' in the English language. The British say 'to-maa-tou' whereas some Americans will say 'to-maii-tou'. That's why I threw in the line about 'Tomaten' and 'Paradiese' in Germany and Austria.

This is a stroller that I wore at a wedding two years ago, it's is Ralph Lauren, it actually had some nice detail work for a mass-market tux:

"Tomate" is german for "tomato". "Paradeiser" is the austrian word for "Tomate". It's like "Kartoffel" (german for potato) and the austrian "Erdapfel".

The Duke definitely wears a morning suit (in german "Cut") and not a "Stresemann".

To return to the topic: I think that the only appropriate outfit for a wedding would be the morning coat or a stroller (if this is the same as a "Stresemann").
