Tux question: Any of these features a deal-killer? (now including fit pics)

So I was walking through H&M of all places today when I saw something I hadn't seen before there: a normal (not uber-trendy) tux (sold as separates). I've wanted to replace my JAB tux for a while because it doesn't fit, and I thought this might be a great one to have in the mean time in case I need it (seeing as it was only $190). The tux description is as follows:

One button
Shawl collar
Slight texture to the wool
Satin facings on collar/lapels, buttons, waistband, pant legs
Flat front trousers
Slim fit

There were a few non-traditional features, and I wanted to see everyone's thoughts on these (whether any were deal-killers):

1. Only one button on the cuff.

2. Pocket flaps and no satin trim around the rim of the pocket (I've heard they can be removed but not sure if that applies to any and all types of suits).

3. Belt loops (Again, I've heard it's possible to remove these). Worst case I suppose I wear a cummerbund, though I rarely wear a waist covering at all, and if I had to wear one I'd prefer a waistcoat.

4. It's on the shorter side. The sleeve length is fine, it's the body that's a bit short. In my estimation, all that means is that once shorter suits are out it'll be harder to wear this one.

5. The trousers all appeared to have been previously hung on a too-snug suit hanger and had a crease across the side. I know that'll steam out of the wool, will it steam out of the satin too?

Overall, I thought it was a bit nicer than their regular suits, and since I don't wear a tux that often, I don't want a really nice one until it's also a good deal. From the above description, what do you think, go for it? Oh, and the only work it needs is shortening of the trousers.

this sounds a lot like a black suit, or at least a "tuxedo" that was based very heavily on suit specs

I have seen adverts for a dinner suit or dinner jacket, from H&M; it does look like a suit-style evening wear.

In terms of the garment you have seen:
1. Deal-killer for me, but you may not mind
2. Tuck the flaps in and some people will not care/know about the stripe
3. They will be covered and if an issue, get them removed
4. How 'short' is the suit, it is a slim-fit or a size too small. If the latter then no?
5. Give it a good iron on the lowest setting

If you need a cheap dinner suit because you need something in the meantime or only plan to wear it a several times, and plan to wear in environments that are not sartorially focussed - it is worth considering; however, personally I would not.

What sounds suit-like besides pocket flaps and belt loops?

The jacket only has one button and is a shawl, neither of which I would consider normal "suit" attributes and the trousers have a satin stripe down the side.

As far as the length, it doesn't look/feel too small anywhere, a 38r was a perfect fit all round, I would have preferred a 38l if they made one, put it that way. However it looks as though it is supposed to be a short suit, not a suit that you just bought a size too small.

Seems like an old rag of a black suit being tarted up. The single button cuff is actually enough to condemn it.

Do the trousers have the silk 'stripe'?

Yes, satin stripe down the side of the trousers, and around the waistband, also satin lapels and button-coverings.

I suppose I could always have the faux buttonhole removed and just have three or four tux buttons put on each sleeve. Honestly, the pocket flaps were a bigger issue for me. However, I took a quick look around and it seems a lot of makers of "proper" tuxes have them (like Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, etc) so maybe it isn't so bad.

The shawl collar would be a deal breaker for me.

how about you post a fit poc, don't tell us where it's from, everyone will praise it, then you tell us it's H&M and then we'll start to nitpick, and then you'll go spend days searching for something we'd be proud of, then you show up to the event and completely blend in with everyone else, and your buddy wearing that damn H&M suit gets like 3 compliments and a phone number, then you start a thread here bitching about how nobody understands you and why you're better because you went all bespoke?

Honestly if you are looking to keep it cheap you could just get a Signature line JAB peak lapel model, they are currently on sale for $238.50. People rip on JAB 24/7 around here but for correct formal wear they have some decent options.

The SB Peak model has besom pockets, grosgrain lapels, Bemberg lining and super 120's wool with one button and a single pleat trouser. I think they are half-canvased due to being the "Signature Line", but even if not you aren't cleaning it that often so the canvas vs. fusing debate is some what moot here, unless we are getting into construction snobbery and group think JAB hate.

I snagged one of these the other day to wear to a NYE black-tie party because I do not want to risk my vintage midnight blue shawl tux in a place with 1500-3000 drunk people and an open bar.

If you want H&M, they did a tuxedo with Lanvin and I have seen them popping up on the bay for pretty cheap.

Can't get behind this if it is "rules" based due to the shawl being 100% correct....If they just look wonky on you, then I understand.

One button, short jacket - its a trendy tux.

Its < $200 bucks. You know this isn't a tux you'll keep for 10 years. If you think you'll use it enough in the next 18 months to justify the cost and it fits well, go for it. The alternative is wearing one that apparently fits you like crap, which is more of a dealbreaker to me then how many buttons are on the cuff.

I don't personally like shawl, but if you like it and recognize this is a cheap trendy tux that apparently fits well, enjoy.

This sounds like a good option to me. Not sure why 1 button cuff is so bad - seems like a very minor detail. Belt loops, pocket flaps, and creasing are insignficant. As for the length - you need to judge that. But given the expected life expectancy of an H&M suit, I wouldn't worry about it going out of fashion.
I think it would be fun to have a cheap tux for boozy evening events.

My #1 deal-killer on a suit is pleats, of any kind.

If I get this tux, it'll be for any formal event until I find one I like at a decent price, afte rwhich I'll probably use the jacket with jeans for just going out. Thinking maybe I'll give this a shot.

If you're referring to the one-button front, that's most the most traditional for a dinner jacket, or "tux" as you call it.

What are the lapels like? Notch or peak?
