I travel a lot and I mean a lot for work. I was looking for a new carry-on to replace my last one that wore out. I wanted something stylish too.

Is Tumi worth the extra money than say a 200 dollars Samsonite?

I was looking at this one:

Many thanks for the help with this tough decision.

I think so, yes. I have a T-3 24 inch and it's really held up well on flights back and forth from Japan over the past few years. Whether or not it's that much better than one of the upper-end Samsonites might be debatable, but I'd easily buy my Tumi again if I had it to do over.

So jealous... I wish I was travelling back and forth from Japan.

Three or four days of wicked jet lag, waking up at all hours of the night thinking it's mid-day, being confused whether it's Monday or Wednesday (and being sure that, thanks to crossing the date line, one of those days ends up being 38 hours long)... and I think you'll be happy staying put.

I'm going to Japan in October for work. First time.

I'll be in Tokyo for a few days and then I am taking a week to explore. Any suggestions?

Saks off 5th stores also have some Tumi items, but the only ones I ever see are either orange or their "space flight" design with the hideous silver material.

I used to travel a lot and one thing I didn't like about Tumi rollers was that the extending handle rests inside the bag eating up some useable space. I ended up using Briggs and Riley (www.briggsandriley.com) which also has an unconditional lifetime warranty.

Love my tumi bags. These have taken a beating over the last few years, everywhere from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Dubai, Germany and many other fun places. They have held up great and I would definitely recommend them.

I really like Tumi ballistic nylon. I have a computer bag in this material that has literally traveled the world and its very durable. I also find Tumi dealers to be very high quality.

Highly recommended.

I've got 4 different pieces (20" rollaway, 22" rollaway, 24" suitcase, and 20" duffle) of Tumi luggage and love them all. They're very well-made and take a beating. The pieces are expensive but, I think, worth it.

I think Andiamo luggages are better made than Tumi's.

Yeah and they had this one at the Off 5th in Potomac Mills that was made for mountain climbing -- all white and very light. Be the most stylish guy on Everest.

I have tumi and briggs and riley. both are good - I would say that briggs and riley are slightly better, but the tumi are more stylish. I don't like the recent designs of tumi - what I have are 3 plus year old designs in tumi.

I've never owned B&R, but I LOVE my Tumi stuff. I am a consultant and travel at least once per week. Mine have taken a serious beating and continue to thrive. MAKE SURE you only buy the mainline Tumi (I believe they are on 4.0). Any of their lower lines are over-priced crap.
