Trying to authenticate a Brioni Tie

I have a tie with a clearly legitimate Neiman Marcus tag and the tie is clearly hand made, quality silk, self tipped, with bar tack and loop thread, brioni gold bar. But someone is saying that “if it does not have a serial number it’s a fake. No exceptions.” Is this actually true? I don’t want to remove the bar tack and start digging.
