When discussing mixing brown and black it seems like the answer is always "it depends". So I've got a gray/black argyle sweater, black jeans and brown shoes on. How did I do? Or should I switch to black shoes?

Thanks for the advice!

i'd say the shoes need a mix of black and brown to pull it off, e.g. two tone saddle shoes and wingtips.

Well I can't say I'm too surprised by the comments. I'm fully aware that I'm not exactly a fashionable guy. But more constructive comments (like aizan's) would be appreciated.

Every comment other Aizan's is what you need to pay some immediate attention to. If you don't care about being fashionable...wth are you here? Sorry man the whole look is so off that nobody would care if you wear black and brown.

Fine, I'll try.

Buy a sweater of the non-argyle variety.
Buy jeans that fit and don't have such a terrible wash.
Buy shoes that aren't ugly.

I'm scared to ask what shirt you're wearing under the sweater.

Saddle shoes as suggested by aizan would in no way improve this fit, just make it more absurd. I think he was just commenting on pairing black and brown in general.

You are so far off the mark fitwise that you could mixing polka dot and stripes and it wouldn't matter.

In general though, I wear black jeans with brown boots all the time, I don't think it is an issue outside of a black suit.

yeah, i would not mind wearing this outfit, even if longwings and shawl collar cardigans are going out of style by now.

lands' end hunter green shawl cardigan
mercer & sons straight collar white oxford
tanner goods saddle tan standard belt w/brass hardware (on second thought, maybe i would just get it in black)
left field black greaser jeans
alden black and brown longwings

ugh, that took longer than i thought.
