I was thinking about attempting to make my own necktie and was wondering if anyone has a pattern or knows where I may be able to obtain a pattern for a true 7 fold necktie and a double 4 fold necktie. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was after this quest when I first joined and gave up after nothing came up. I didn't get much on a true seven fold, it is hard for me to understand how the tie would end up even after uneven folds . . .

For a double-4, it is really simple. This may help:

I have trouble with getting fabric for ties though. So if you know of where to buy fabric, do post here to let people know, in case anyone is interested.

Buy a 7-fold tie, take it apart, and put it back together.

That's how the Chinese do it.

Thats what I was thinking about doing but I thought maybe someone here had undertaken this project before and might already have a pattern and some helpful tips.

Hi,

The above photo essay that I made is for a four-fold, not a double-four-fold. A true double four-fold would be an eight-fold which we rarely make. On SF and AA what people call a double four-fold is actually a lined six-fold. Which is a very nice construction - one of my favorites.

A pattern for a unlined seven fold is actually not that helpful unless you have made many three folds already. (smiling)

We are constantly changing our patterns as the silk and client dictates.

The main requirement is patience.

As for silk fabric for ties we sell hundreds of different silks. Send me an email.

Do you have a pattern for the lined six fold that you would be interested in selling along with the necessary silk?

Vox had a great article here a while ago on this subject that covered most of the questions.

It was actually that thread that got me thinking about making one.

The problem is that there are no measurements there, which is what I need.

I have a few Kiton 7's but not willing to dismantle them.

Sometimes you just have to man up and do what is right for SF.

If I had one that was damaged or something, I would.

By the way, the Kiton is actually a 6 fold, so it wouldnt be the ideal candidate anyway.
