True collar size on BB shirts; does it run one size bigger?

So I ordered a couple of ESF shirts from BB couple days ago.

I usually wear 15.5 collar, but ordered 15 for these shirts, only because two BB shirts (though 346 version from outlet) I have are 15 and fit pretty well without being too tight. When I measured the collar size of those 15's I have, it turned out to be 15.5 inches. (Now, I know why these fit okay to my neck, while all other size 15 shirts choked me out)

Though I am aware there must be size variability for each brand, I was wondering this is the case for other forum members who own ESF shirts. If they run true to their size, I will have to call them tomorrow and hopefully change the order before they ship out.

Yeah, I've come to this realization as well on the BB ESF shirts. I'm the same as you, I wear a 15.5 in nearly every other shirt vendor but a 15 in the BB ESF shirts.

I literally just tried on some ESF shirts today and was surprised by this. I tried on a 16.5 gingham shirt and the body fit nice but the neck was huge! So size down, right? Tried on a 16 and the collar fit but the shoulders were too narrow for me.

The strange thing though is I have the slim fit supima ocbd in a 16.5 and the collar fits nice, a little loose but not terribly so. I think they'll slim down if I dry them in the dryer.

If you have a 15" neck, a 15" inch collar won't physically fit around it. Shirt makers typically add .5" to your neck measurement to yield the correct collar size.

Since a size 15 BB shirt is designed to fit a 15" neck, its collar size should be 15.5" post-shrinkage. Right out of the packaging, it will measure .25-.5" greater than that to allow for shrinking post-wash.

My experience with the heritage fabric OC (must iron) is that it will shrink about .5" after washing.

They're supposed to shrink to your neck after time.

I find that the OCBDs shrink a lot more than the non-iron shirts. The other "must iron" shirts will likely do the same.

My tailor says I require a 16.75" to 17" measurement for the collar, 16.5" bare neck. I measured my BB collars using the Modern Tailor guidelines (center of button to center of button hole).

I have the slim fit and the regular fit (from outlets) non-iron shirts in size 16.5" that measure 16.75" after approx. 6 washes. They may not have shrunk at all, I will have to measure the next one I buy before washing.

I have the regular fit OCBDs (outlet, using same material as mainline) size 16.5". They started with gaping collars and shrunk to 16.5". I can just close the collar, but not comfortably. I don't wear a tie with these so it is not too bad. The Sleeves also shrunk a little more (by about .25" more) than I expected, but again it's workable. I may move the buttons if I feel like wearing a tie.

I haven't tried the ESF because the regular SF are close to perfect for me, but I hope this information is helpful.
