What brands would you recommend if I was looking for a pair of normal/slim cut trousers at about a $50 or less price range? I'm looking to wear them for semi-casual events / hanging out.

Does uniqlo have trousers?

Depends on the material. I have a pair of Ben Sherman wool slacks that I think are pretty decent and fit well, and I paid about 50 for them.

UNIQLO has trousers. They vary wildly in cut and styling.

For what you want, stick to "slim" and "slim straight" cuts and you should be fine.

For less than $50 bucks I'd usually head over to Uniqlo or Macy's, Brooks Brothers is on sale now with pants now worth about $50 bucks.
