Trousers won't stay pressed

I've had this pair of wool trousers for a couple years now. I wear them a couple times a week and dry clean them every couple months. To press them, I steam them before each wear. Recently, they would become very creased after just a couple hours of wear. Is this normal wear and tear ?

This is caused by steaming before you wear the trouser.

Wool fiber is hollow and absorbs moisture from the steam. The fibers relax and expand releasing the wrinkles. The wool fibers are the most unstable at this point. If you steam and then wear the trouser it will cause more wrinkles than normal and as the fibers release the moisture and dry, the wrinkles are set in. The result is the trouser looks worse than before. You want a minimum of overnight to one day to let the wicking occur and the wool fibers to return to a normal, dry state. If you don't have that amount of time, let it dry a few hours minimum.

Steam is only one part of making the trouser look better. The steam has to be applied in controlled amounts and to specific areas. heat needs to be applied to dry/draw out the moisture and pressure applied to compress the cloth again, smooth out the cloth and to create a crease.

Forget steaming trousers and learn to press them. Do not wear the trouser immediately after pressing. Wait a day for best results.

There is a thread posted yesterday how the lapels were messed up by steaming.

Worked a treat (sorry I'm over a year late in my thanks).
