I will be visiting Croatia for holiday soon. Very much looking forward to it. I won't be able to venture very far into Italy, but we will have a car and plan on seeing Lublianja, so a side trip to Trieste is not out of the question.

Tourist reasons aside, it worth it to go to Trieste for the shopping? I won't be back in Italy any time soon. I can't spend a ton on clothes. To give a rough idea, I could be convinced to spend $300(US) on shoes, $70 on shirts, $300 on a sports coat. So we're not in Borrelli territory, unless it's deeply discounted.

Has anyone shopped Trieste before? More generally, is it going to be cheaper for me to shop in Italy than on the East Coast here? Is there an Italian equivalent to the outlet mall? My Croatian friends will have opinions, of course, but I wanted to see if anyone here has any experiences.

Of course, if there are good options closer to Zagreb or the coast, I'd love to know. Thanks.

I've spent time in Trieste and think its an ineresting city. As for shopping in italy, its almost always more expensive than shopping in the US. Unless there is something specific that you want, I think you'd be better shopping here.
