tried Trickers stow boot for first time: help request

Hi everyone, I need your help and knowledge.

Tried yesterday for the first time a pair of Trickers stow boots. I was surprised the sole was neither commando or dainite. The store manager told me they have them made on purpose with vibram sole, so it's much lighter that with dainite. He took off a pair with dainite soles and it was indeed much heavier.
besides this, two things surprised me: they were really stiff (I was expecting to find the leather somehow softer) and when you have them on the tip of the boot looks bigger than in pics or on the view. I thought it was a more elegant shoe, but with such a big tip I had to change my view.

First question: do they get softer? when you break them in, do they adapt to your feet?
Second: I think I am ready to place an online order probably from Pediwear and I don't know which sole to choose. Should I go dainite? or should I get leather sole and have my local shop to place rubber on them? I need rubber for cold insulation and slippery wet floors, and I would have gone with the dainite if I didn't do the "weight" test...

They, like all leather, get softer.

The Stow (and Trickers country line in general) are known for being heavy, solid boots made for walking. They do one thing and they do it well. Some see their wide foot and rounded toe as inelegant. I don't really care because I don't have sleek elegant feet. I have wide, weird shaped feet that need a country last to fit properly. I don't even fit into the Stow and need the fitting 6 Malton.

If you want lighter footwear, go for a shoe. If you want more elegant footwear, try Crockett and Jones. alternatively, get the MTO that the shop has commissioned with the vibram soles. If it's the white sole, I think they look quite funky.

I've got a pair of Stows with dainite soles. I don't find them particularly heavy for that style of boot. They're one of my favorite pairs of boots. They are very stiff when you first get them but they do break in after a while. The double leather sole is even stiffer and take longer to break in. They do look big and bulbous but that's really part of the whole Country line.

I really like the dainite soles. They're great for wet pavement. They're only marginally better than a leather sole on a wet smooth surface though.

I have a pair of Trickers brogue boots (not sure if they are the Stow model or not) and they do indeed loosen up. They may be a bit on the clunky side, but they are solid and they go great with tweed. I really like mine.

I've been looking to actually try a pair of Stow before I too take the plunge. OP, are you in the US by chance and if so, where were you able to try them on?

Personally I like the look but I am curious as to the proportion of the boots. I wear a 7D on the AE 0 & 8 last so I assume a Stow in 6 should be an appropriate fit (I've read they run larger). I was wondering if their length are comparable to those of typical AE? I am just concerned that since the Stow is a substantial boot, a smaller size might look stubby.

Looking stubby could be a problem for you.
I've got a pair in 9.5UK and I think those look somewhat stubby.
Part of it is how wide the soles themselves are.
