Trickers Stow questions...

Getting ready to order a pair of Stows and had a couple questions about them...

1. My Red Wing Iron Rangers are an 8 US, and I have a pair of Clarks DB's in size 8 US. Can anyone help me out with the sizing of the Stow boot? I've done plenty of searching but am just trying to get it nailed down, I'm in the U.S. so shipping back to the UK in the event of a misfit isn't a very attractive option.

2. As far as boot care goes, what would everyone recommend?

Thanks in advance. I greatly appreciate the help and will be sure to post some good shots of them when they arrive...

I don't know about the Stow, but I have the Lambourn and the Marlow, both in size 9.5, width fitting 5. I sized down a full size from my normal US shoe size (For Allen Edmonds, Brooks Brothers, Polo by C&J, PF Flyers, I almost invariably buy a 10.5D or M).

I've heard that the Stow is a bit bigger than those two, so you're probably looking at getting either a size or size and a half down. In other words, if 10.5D in the USA, look at either a 9 or 9.5 (5 fitting) in the Tricker's Stow.

As for care - I would just do the normal shoe care routine. Use your usual shoe creams and shoe polishes in a similar color. For me, that's the AE cream polish stuff that comes in the toothpaste tubes. But you could do saphir, or kiwi, etc, which I think comes in tins. Plus the occasional condition, shoe cream touch up, which will have a higher dye content.

The Stow is on Tricker's 4497s last which is designed to allow you to wear the pair of woolly socks that your grandmother knitted for you with them. Size down a half from your normal English size is the official advice.

Speaking from personal experience I find the 4497s last to be very wide but not elongated.

As regards care they don't need anything special....they're built like brick shithouses. In the old days country folk used to soak them in a bucket of water for a week to break them in.

I bought mine one full size down (10.5) from my US boot size. They were a little tight in the toe box for me but it's stretching out. The width is fine otherwise (and I have somewhat side feet). I don't really feel they run long though as the actual wearable part of the boot is shorter than my 10.5 UK Grenson boots (and shorter than my 11.5 RW 1909s by a bit). If you're a standard fit I'd say 1 full size down is a good bet.

And as far as shoe care, I've just been using Pecards conditioner. Mine are black and so far I've avoided polishing them because I wear them rather casually.

1 full size down from your measured US dress shoe size.

I wear US 9.5 and UK 8.5 in Stows

You mean 9.5 (5), not E, right? I thought Tricker's used only numbers for the width.

So it sounds like I should do a 7UK in Trickers since I wear an 8US in Red Wings and Clarks DB's...

Thanks everyone for your help, I'll be sure to post shots when they arrive.
