Tricker's sizes - boots vs. oxfords

First post on this amazing forum...

...it's about shoes. I intend to purchase the Tricker's Grassmere boots, and I am not sure about the size. My usual size is 6.5, and I have some Tricker's oxfords in this size that fit perfectly. Now I read somewhere that the boots are rather generously sized. Meaning, better half size down?

Any experiences with this?

I think I'm right in saying that Trickers' country stuff is based on the 4444 and 4497 lasts. The Stow boot is 4497 and the Bourton shoe is on the 4444, for example. I'm not certain what the Grassmere is based on but I'd bet it's the 4497. That particular last is narrower and lower in vamp than the 4444, so certainly closer to Trickers' city shoe lasts than the 4444. I dropped half a size from my regular sizing when trying on both boot and shoe but decided in the end that the boot of that size was just a little too snug. It's going to be a close call for you I think but maybe others here have more direct experience of city vs country sizing and can offer a more helpful reply!

Edit: Oh, and I very highly recommend Richard from ShoeHealer! Fantastic guy to do business with and deeply knowledgable about Trickers.

Thanks! Considering that with boots one wears thicker socks anyway (at least I do), I think I will go for my normal size. I wonder though, why Tricker's offer this boot only in the 6 width (= wide), and not in the normal 5.

Depends on your foot shape. Sizing down for country boots did not work for me.

I've got a few pairs of Tricker's boots and they are half a size bigger than their standard shoes. They are made to wear with thicker socks.

Well, here is how it ended up. Following KPauls advice (thanks again), I contacted Richard, the Shoe Healer. I can only state what KPaul has already stated - fantastic guy who really knows a lot about Tricker shoes and lasts.

Following his advice, I went down 1/2 a size with the Tricker's Grasmere boots (because of the greater width they have). Also thanks to Saleslocust for this. They have arrived now - they fit perfectly. Great country boots (the real ones, you know) that will probably last a lifetime; or longer. They are of the sturdy kind and need some walking in. Now I have the C&J Snowdons that can also be used for a side trip into the city, and the Tricker's for the rambles through hedge, brush and bush.
