I am buying my father some formal shoes as a christmas present, he's never had high quality shoes before and has a kind of "it's not worth it" attitude. I aim to show him it's worth buying a quality pair of shoes in the long run.

I have seen a pair of Trickers City Collection Kent shoes for around £230 and my price point is £200-300, I've searched these forums extensively but there is so much information I am overwhelmed.

The key points are:

- He will most likely wear them to work, his job does not require a massive amount of walking (Office job) but they still need to be durable.
- They need to be comfortable, so comfort over style.
- I would prefer them to be of an oxford design or something similar, nothing too flashy, just some nice formal, black/very dark brown shoes.

The Trickers City Line I notice has leather soles which I know wear out far quicker, but they are also chanelled (not sure how much this helps?)

What are my alternatives in this price range and should I even consider the Trickers City Collection?

For a good look at the various black captoes that are available, this is a good thread to start

Personally, I've been quite happy with my pair of Trickers Henley captoes, but I rarely have the need to wear black captoes so I can't speak much to their durability. That being said, if you want to know anything about Trickers, email Richard at the Shoehealer in Doncaster.

Can anyone give some insight on whether it would be worth the extra £170 to buy a pair of Alfred Sargent Armfields instead?

How noticeable is the difference in quality for someone with no experience in this field?

Trickerscity SHOEHEALER who is a registered member on this forum is very knowledgeable when we talk about Trickers as he sells all models of Trickers. Better still you can drop him an email on [email protected] or call him on 01302329965.
Hope it all works out for you.
