I first saw Tretorns a few days ago at Factory People, a local boutique. Zappos carries a large selection of them. They seem to be a nice alternative to Chucks as they are the same general shape and construction. Pricing seems to be in the Gola and Fred Perry range. I have my eye on this pair in the Thrush color.

They seem to be branching out -- for a long time, there were about four or five basic styles. They're horrible to play tennis in, but they were fashionable in the 70's & 80's amongst preppy women.

Yeah, they look fine. But why don't you just get Chucks?

I'm with dusty. They're okay, but I'd buy Chucks instead.

I would try a pair on before ordering, if you can. Older Tretorns, anyway, have a funny shape/silhouette. I think they have more in common with Keds than Chucks.

They're going for a Chucks look, but they're more expensive. I'd take the real thing. Even if they're everywhere--and they are for good reason.

Yes, the old Tretorns were more like those keds for women. Though Tretorn did (does?) make a pair that was slightly (but only slightly) more shaped for the male foot. The old mens Tretorns came with white "stripe" or navy. I think they were a compfortable shoe, high-quality, made in Sweden (??) I think -- but for sport, there are better shoes. For fashion, I'll let you judge. The women's had a stripe of pink, green, plaid, white, or a lighter blue. For a long time, they seemed to have limited distribution to small tennis shops, clubs, etc. More popular in sections of the east coast or mid-west (places like Lake Forest) then anywhere else. At least this was my impression.

I have a pair of Tretorn sneakers and I have received lots of compliments for them, especially from good-looking women. Nothing to complain about.

Kent, the link doesn't work but I love Tretorns. I'm not sure if they're available already but I've ordered the Skane Canvas both in Hi and Lo for spring. I also really like the Tournament Board Short in Gray.

Tretorn sneakers have been hip for the past 2 or 3 years; and everybody is going to see a lot more of them now that they're being distributed by puma. That said, the quality is pretty decent and their shapes are fine. I really like some of the styles too-especially the hockey boots. I am though, disappointed to hear that factory people is only carrying them just now; but that's Texas I guess...

I'm liking these hockeyboots. They have a sort of visvim vibe. [IMG]

I just stumbled over Tretorn while searching for classic, reasonably priced, decent quality sneakers.

Can anyone comment on the construction of them (comfort?), fit and quality? Maybe in relation to Converse Chucks since everybody knows them?

I have a pair of T-56s that I wore all over Europe this summer, and they're still doing fine. I like how they look better than Chucks, but they're not the most comfortable of shoes.
