In a rather desperate attempt to be trendy, London's Gieves and Hawkes is offering these shoes in a buckshot-random-brogueing:

No, the model is not called Dick Cheney.

I noticed, too, that they were selling a pair of wing-tips in pure white. Very nasty! I asked the assistant who made the shoes for them - he replied that they made their own! Hmmm ....

Strange, to be sure, but I quite like those shoes. If the price is not unreasonable I might get them. Does anyone who makes them?

I'd happily nominate that Random Brogue for the worst-design-idea-I've-seen- in-months award. Would you like to start a betting pool on how few pairs get sold?

I can't seem to find them for sale on their website or a store that offers this brand in the US or Canada, does anyone know where this item is to be had?

I'd say they've really shot themselves in the foot with these shoes.

I think it works, at least for me. The juxtaposition of a seemingly well constructed brown leather shoe with the random frivolity of the brogue patterning actually looks very interesting.

I think it looks like a colony of termites had a go at your shoe.

I'd be interested in seeing some Appreciation of other "novelty" medallions. Barker Black's skulls have been recently discussed, although remain unseen, for example. I'm thinking about picking up a pair of these Robert Cameron "Nolan"s:

(If anyone knows anything about Robert Cameron, I'd be interested to hear it...)

G & H used to be very elegant and tasteful. A long time ago!

This is a bad joke, and quite sad. Thom Browne can attempt this kind of thing and get away with it (though I'm not saying people would buy it).

When G & H attempts something like this, they seem foolish and desperate.
