I need a new coat to wear to work in a business casual environment that will work for everything not cold enough for a heavy wool coat. I currently have a black 3/4 length London Fog with a removable quilted liner which was great except that I don't like that it's black and the material has made it look pretty well worn quickly and it hasn't aged gracefully. I'd really like to find something with a removable liner since temps can fluctuate quite a bit where I'm at.
Does a tan or beige trench coat go with most anything? Could I wear that over charcoal slacks and black shoes or would that clash? Am I better off with navy or is it personal preference?
This seems like a staple piece I should have for a long time so I don't mind spending some money on it if there's a reason to from a quality perspective, although obviously I would rather spend less than more and am don't want to pay double just because it has Burberry lining. I like simple and clean looking items and don't like belts, flaps, and others things that to me make me think of the Inspector Gadget cartoon I used to watch.
Many of what I'm looking at have some sort of rubber coating to the cotton, will this be like wearing a Hefty bag and make me sweaty and hot? I understand the purpose of a trench is primarily rainwear, but we have more technical fabrics now so I was surprised to see expensive coats that are "rubberized" with armpits eyelets to breathe. Am I missing something?
Here are the coats I've found I like the look of and are within my price point. I would be more comfortable with one of the first two for $500 or under, but am also open to learning the advanatges of the others for a few hundred more since if they are signifigantly better I would rathe pay more now and have them wear better and last longer.
Also, I do not want to wear Barbour for this situation.

Crombie - looks nice and basic and gas removable liner and may be a good deal, the only size they have happens to be mine

Aquascutum - appears to be identical to the above but in navy, a couple inches shorter, but has a removable liner which would be nice.

$900 Mackintosh Duncan for J Crew - rather typical looking to me but I read a lot about how wonderful they are.
