Trench Coat

Any recommendations for trench coats? Ideally I'd like a half length one. I can't really afford a £700 Miu Miu one I've seen in Selfridges, or up to £1000 on Aquascutum on Burberry. I know a coat is an investment, but I'm on a student budget and already have a nice long rain coat. I'm in London tomorrow morning so any specific suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm a Uni student in the States and have had the trench interest too. I bought a Cerruti off eBay that is a perfect cut (a little long though) but it has cheap plastic buttons. I also bought an Aquascutum trench off eBay but it was too boxy, it would take a lot of tailoring to get to it my satisfaction so it will probably be going to the Salvation Army.
