How much bigger should a trench coat measure than your suit? I wear about a 40 jacket measured at 42 around the chest. How big should a trench coat be over the suit?

Coats are usually sized so you buy your suit size and they fit over that. So you would look at size 40 coats. It would be wise to pop by a store that has similar coats while wearing the suit and try on a couple to see what size you are most comfortable in.
