Trench Coat for College Student?

As April is upon us, I decided it might be time for me to purchase a trench/trench-styled rain coat.

That said, I'm only in college, and while my manner of dress already looks older than my age, I don't want the coat I buy to completely perpetuate that image to a whole new level.

In other words, I'm looking for a "younger" trench coat. Something a little shorter than the traditional trench coat, etc.

While I'm not looking to spend a fortune, I am willing to spend up to around $1400-1500 for the right coat, as I intend on wearing this for many years to come.

Any suggestions?

eh, I'd just buy a cheaper one from J. Crew or Banana Republic.. they'll fit in well for college. That is, as well as a trench coat fits in at college.. I don't believe I have ever seen someone wear on in college, grad school, or medical school.

You may look at Brooks Brothers if you want something nicer. Burberry if you really want to go all out.

I think $1400 for a trench coat qualifies as a fortune.

If you want to look your age, buy a shorter trench coat, no longer than the one above. I saw an even shorter cropped trenchcoat from J Lindberg last fall which was very nice for a fraction of what you're looking to spend.

Maybe it's the vacant, sunken-eyed stare; but this fellow looks like the "Shotguns in Sociology" type. I'd avoid a dark coloured trench, unless the rest of your wardrobe tends to be particularly bright.

Besides, who buckles a trench coat belt?

Get a shorter one. You don't want to look like a Columbine kid.

At least it's short enough that you can see his pants so he doesn't look like "the flasher in the bushes at the park" type.
