i have googled this a little bit and not found much of an answer.

so anyway, i have a few pairs of nice-ish shoes. the pair i wear to work is a plain toe shell cordovan blucher that i just had resoled. i got caught in the rain the other day walking from the train and i started to wonder about the possibility of treating the leather sole with a product such as obenauf's heavy duty leather protector to minimize the water absorption. is this something that should be done? is it really just overkill and a waste of time? are there any inherent problems with doing this?

i wouldn't do more than a light coating, but i wanted to check in here to see if this was a no go first. thanks.

It's not necassary at all. If you get them wet just give them your normal day or two to dry out naturally. Setting them on their side is a good idea to help them dry.
