treasures at the Rite-Aid?

A short while ago a food critic at the NYTimes wrote an article on superior foods that one can find in any supermarket but might not have noticed.

I wonder, what are the superior men's grooming products that one can find in a Rite-Aid or CVS?

I say, 1) Gilette Fusion Power razor 2) Neutrogena unscented hand cream....there are not any other products that I would recommend as truly special, which is not to say there aren't things I like, just that I do not think they are so good as to be in a class by themselves.

Any nominees?

Wouldn't necessarily call them "men's" grooming products but I like the Neutrogena body oil (unscented)- very light, it pretty much vanishes into your skin if you apply right after showering. I also like the Loreal Sublime Bronze self tanner in medium/deep (the gel version). I use Pear's body wash (very cheap, but I like it), and Clean & Clear oil-blotting sheets (these rule).

Aveeno un-everything (unscented, etc) shaving cream for sensitive skin is one of the best I've tried and pretty cheap, about $4 a can.

When I was in America I went into a Rite Aid so I know it is similar to a druggist we have in Europe.

Here in Europe we have Biotherm skincare items at the druggist which are high quality things.

I would not suggest a Gilette Fusion Power razor--a byproduct of marketers and cynical money practices--as a superior grooming product.

It is insidious and compels one to spend money like an AIDS patient on leave for replacement cartridges. Besides, those things do not even shave very well.

1) I get almost as good a shave from the latest Gillette as I do from the lovely lady who gives me a wet shave at the barber shop. Most important, they are idiot-proof (compare to the fora devoted to explaining how to shave with a Merkur, for example).

2) J, is the Aveeno better than Nivea? A long time ago a woman spent the night at my place and was very impressed I had a certain shave cream in my shower, a sort of "secret weapon" she thought only women knew about. But I can't remember what it was! It was a drugstore brand. I am guessing it was either Nivea, Aveeno, or Noxzema, if the latter exists.

I have both Aveeno and Nivea, the most sensitive type of each, and I have been mostly using the Aveeno. It stays on your face a lot better - takes some effort to rinse off, which is good IMO. It means I won't accidentally go over a patch with nothing on it and scrape myself up.

I like Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer. Both work well for sensitive skin.

I use an Erno Laszlo Night Moisturizer for, obviously the night, and a Biotherm one for the day.

The former is rather costly and the latter not very dear.

Anyone ever try "King of Shaves"? Took a little getting used to but now I love it.

I like King of Shaves stuff. Cheap, works fine.

I go through a lot of Curel Continuous Comfort Fragrance-Free lotion, as my skin gets very dry in the winter, and it's good for healing tattoos.

I use a Neutrogena aftershave balm with moisturizer and SPF 15 sunscreen. Can't remember the exact name. Remember to wet your face before applying. A moisturizer's job is to trap moisture near your skin.
