Travelling with shoes

How do you experienced travelers pack your shoes for long trips?

I travel internationally frequently on business, and I have yet to figure out the best way to travel with shoes. I have tried stuffing the shoes with socks to save space, but they always end up getting bent out of shape, and I don't have trees to put in them while on the road.

But I've found that packing a pair of wooden trees, although theoretically a good idea, weighs a ton.

Is there a better way?

I always understood that cedar trees did some moisture absorbing that was critical. Have I understood incorrectly? Or will plastic do just fine for the 3 weeks I'm on the road?

Yes, but they are not light ... How many pairs do you take for a 3 week rotation? If you are taking only 2 pairs, there will be alot of stress on them.
On the other hand, the plastic ones are opened, so there will be ventilation! Buy also a DrScholl shoe deodorant, it will do good!

Pick up a cheap pair of trees when you arrive at your destination if you are that concerned.

Why not I also bring at leat the same in pants, shirts & tennis shirts. 7-8day socks & underwear. winter might swap out tennis shirts with sweaters and other longsleve. Do you pack the same for a weekend (long) as for 3weeks? To clarify I always ALWAYS have 3pairs with me. min 2packed and one pair worn.

I recently packed 2 pairs and wore a pair for a 2 week trip. I had wooden trees in both packed pairs.

Where does one procure these plastic shoe trees? I don't believe I've ever seen them in department stores, etc.

I typically wear a pair of dress shoes, pack another pair, and also pack a pair of sneakers for workouts and days where I know I'll be doing nothing but walking, like weekends. So that's 3 pairs total.

I can't imagine why you'd need 6 pairs of shoes. I mean, I can imagine wanting to have 6 pairs of shoes, but that's like 1 suitcase all on its own.

When packing shoes for long holidays I always bump into the same problem... how many shoes can I possibly carry with me in my luggage! I just take one cedder shoe tree with, for I only use it on shoes I worn the previous day. At home I use my shoe trees in all my shoes, though.

Just take two pair with you... And wear one in the plane. It oughta suffice.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
