Travelling to the UK - warm coat suggestions?

Hello friends,

I am in Houston, TX and making a last minute trip to the U.K. While it is in the 80s here (Farenheit), it is in the 40s there, and thus I am looking for a thigh length coat that I can wear over a sport coat/suit as needed.

I am 5'10, 180lbs, average built.

I prefer something warm and not slim fit or anything funky. If I can order it online it will be great!

Any suggestions please?

Thanks,
desidude

The U.K. is pretty warm. Are you sure you won't be all right with knitwear under the jacket? Maybe a tweed SC? More versatile combos that will keep your luggage limited.

No-one's wearing coats here at the moment. More like 50s than 40s.

Wore a scarf under my suit jacket yesterday and my wife took the mick! To be fair, I wasn't wearing it to be warm.

An umbrella would probably be more useful.

Coats are totally unecessary in the UK at this time of year. temperatures were in the low 70degs (F) two weeks ago and currently 50/60 and rising. Buy a cheap umbrella if it rains and throw it away when you leave.

That may be true where you are but it certainly isn't here! The OP hasn't said where abouts in the UK he's visiting but a coat is certainly a good thing to bring in my opinion at least - better hot than cold! Its currently +5 C in Northumberland..

I agreed with the umbrella, I would also bring a raincoat plus heavy jumpers, that should be warm enough.

Once you arrived, check out Barbour, that is more for the weather now in UK

I spent today watching a cricket match in County Durham, which is next door to Northumberland, and I can confirm that two coats, gloves, a hat, and long johns failed to keep the cold at bay.

Never cast clout til May is out.

Indeed but as a "clout" was a vest (under garment not a waist coat), he can keep that on (if he must), just no need to buy an overcoat to put on top of the ensemble.
