Hello

I haven’t bought a custom suit or shirts in some time as my new job is mostly a flannels and T-shirt’s kind of gig. However it’s about that time for me to need to do a refresh.

In the past I’ve used MyTailor (Hemrajani) and I was pleased with both their pricing and quality. I had bespoke suits made for me on Saville Row when I worked in London and brought them in to MyTailor. I’d say the MyTailor suits were nearly just as good and far cheaper.

But as I mentioned it’s been some time and vendor options and quality changes so I thought I’d just inquire if anyone had any recommendations in the NYC metro area. I’d also love something with better turnaround time and/or more samples rather than working with small swatches and needing to visualize a full item.

Thanks
Sam

The Armoury and No Man Walks Alone have good selection of tailors that visit NYC regularly.

The Armoury have a lot of samples and fabrics to see and select from in store, everyone there is very knowledgeable.
  1. Liverano & Liverano (who just visited last week, but turnaround time may be too slow for you)
  2. Orazio Luciano (fastest turn around for mtm, bespoke will have to wait for trunkshow)
  3. Ring Jacket (also subject to longer turnaround if you want bespoke)
No Man Walks Alone has a lot of samples from their RTW line for Sartoria Formosa (which is visiting in 2 weeks for bespoke) and their in house line made by Sartoria Carrara (which I have ordered and turn around is standard 2 months).

I have not tried any other tailors in NYC yet, so can't comment on all tailors.

Curious as to what Savile Row house you used?

Richard James... wasn’t cheap I’ll tell you that. For the number of times I need suits or even sports jackets probably no longer worth it to me.

oh i can imagine...I've recently started using MyTailor/Hemrajani Bros as a step up from other MTM shops and am really impressed, glad to hear that they are on par with some of the top tailoring houses esp considering their price

Keep in mind I brought them the Richard James suit and they measured it etc. You can feel the quality difference no less but I don’t feel like it’s worth the price difference.

I mean I'm sure there is but I don;t think i'd get any utility out of going much above MyTailor/Hemrajani price point, I doubt I'll ever be in the range to drop enough money to cop a SR suit.

Steed has a pretty good following on this forum (the A&S expats thread) - they are more moderately priced at 3.5K GBP for bespoke. Aside from the Armoury and NMWA recs above, thats the only other one I would through out...maybe BnTailor if you like their house style.

I think both BnTailor and Steed come through NYC multiple times a year

As usual, I'll make a note of Joseph Genuardi, who works out of what was once a leather factory in Hoboken. I've been quite satisfied with his work, he present an abundance of cloths to choose from among and he's pleasant to deal with, but I'm not sure if his delivery time would be quite as quick as you would like, it took about five months for a three-piece suit and sport coat that he made for me, and his prices are probably higher than suits your purposes. (His rate for a sport coat would be around $ 3,000, a two-piece suit around $ 4,000 and a three-piece suit around $ 4,800)

By the way I want to be clear because it appears there is some confusion. The speed factor is a desire not a requirement.
