1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

"I'm taking my ball and going home."

IE, people deleting all their posts and leaving. This can disrupt or junk entire threads, cause massive confusion, and overall is just an annoying and bitch-ass thing to do. Especially if those posts are informative or useful.

Who would ever do such a thing? [IMG]

Can someone tell bowtieguy that rampant, constant, apparently oblivious necroposting, especially when year-old conversations are replied to as if new, is not a Good Thing?

    +1000000000

That guy is killing me. And his posts are invariably run-on nonsense that contribute absolutely nothing to the thread in the first place. Sometimes I wish there was a mandatory 2-week lurking period around here. I would think it would keep spammers away more as well.

It's easy to post a lot when you don't concern yourself with things like spelling, capital letters, punctuation, or coherent thought.

I was afraid that was him again. Did bowtieguy get banned?

Well all of his posts suddenly disappeared, so I would assume so. He doesn't take hints particularly well it would seem. Even stranger, he introduced himself in the introduction thread again, and filled out his profile with far more detail than I've ever seen. He's completely oblivious to all discussion forum norms.

Still, you have to admire his cleverness and ability to fly under the radar. I mean, who would ever make the "bowtieguy" - "bowtielover" connection? He must be an accomplished confidence man.

It looks like the emoticon collection has shifted. Before when I'd reply to a post, the dozen or so immediately available icons included my favorites [IMG] and [IMG] . Now to use these I have to click on [more] and wait for the full page to load up.....

For a second there, I was trying to figure out why you were calling that smiley "colon-slayer". I thought there must be some inside-SF Conne/Ed joke I'd missed.

    +1

I thought this was some type of (not so) veiled reference to the "dump" post...

    HarryMerkin!? What a hilarious name.

My grandfather once explained what a merkin was by describing it as "a piece of woodchuck fur on a cork."

Yes, I talked to him about not necroposting 100 threads.

His posts were few and somewhat funny. If it really becomes a problem he will of course disappear.

I'm not sure what happened but in order to fix the smilie list position I would have to go through and number them all in the order I want them to appear. Every time I add a new one it changes the order seemingly randomly. I am too lazy to do this ordering thing, but I can make a few more appear all the time and maybe that will help.
