1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

It happens. Don't worry about the spam until you're more senior. In the meantime, just report it if you see it. Enjoy the rest of the site.

That is exactly wtf I did and my excellent conversation with Beta was blown out of the water.

Misunderstandings happen, even to the senior members.

No, see, he signed up with a product name as a username and talked about the product, then reported a different spammer, and now he's signed up with the product name and a -1 appended and is offended.

I'm not selling anything. There is no product. There's development. The username I chose is typically what I use in forums and corresponds well to the topic at hand (specifically the thread that the discussion was taking place in). Do you think if I was spamming would I give a shit about an actual spammer enough to report it? I don't think so. I'm not offended. Just I had a valid conversation going and it was up and baleted. Some thanks for pointing out an actual nasty invisible pixel posting spammer.

Thanks for taking the time to address this and consider my points. It's appreciated. Also, thanks for the reinstatement (which I've just seen).

You can put a transparent pixel image in your post by linking to it from your server. You can then look at your logs from your sever to gather stats on how many times that page the post is on is viewed and who viewed it.

In this instance, spammers use those stats to sell their services and gather information on who to target. Other legitimate tracking services (like google, omniture, etc) use this method for other purposes for site owners.

    Eh? That's the real answer.
