1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I have to say, for all past yearning by RJ and others for his return, this incarnation of Ernest is rather underwhelming.

Perhaps ImageWIS should have dropped by more often. [IMG]

    +1. It's freakin sad.

I should really use my games against him as a learning resource, but I'm normally so pissed and dumbfounded I can't learn from it.

Kwilkinson. This will be the only useful thing I've ever said to you. Check out The Amateur's Mind. This is THE beginner chess book:

    http://www.amazon.com/Amateurs-Mind-...2387628&sr=8-1

It goes through the misconceptions that amateurs have about the game and shows why they're wrong. You can't learn from GM games because there are so many lines that they simply don't consider because of prior analysis. Those, however, are the lines that amateurs play and Jeremy Silman shows you why they're wrong and how to beat opponents who play them. I would give you my copy, but it's that valuable of a book. Very, very, eye opening and easy to follow (same goes for his other book, How to Reassess Your Chess).

At the same time or after read My System by Aron Nimzovich.

Cool, thanks. I just had it sent interlibrary loan to my local branch. If I like it, I'll pick it up--- at $14.00, why not?
    Thanks for the rec.

The real secret to win is to use a chess bot program, like what many online poker players do.

Silman is good, but I think a lot of amateurs find it hard to take his advice. How Not to Play Chess is a short and entertaining book from which a few people here could profit. [IMG]

There are at least two books with this title. You mean the Reinfeld one, or something else?

This thread quickly turned from the apex of shadenfreude and entertainment into the abyss of boredom and nerdinousness. Say no to chess discussions here.

We are being good and have moved the conversation to the pwnage thread, it's proper home.
