I want to get in shape, sick of being a desk jockey.

Any gym and trainer recommendations in SF? I live in Potrero Hill and work in the FiDi.

Bay Club is the nicest by a good margin. The big one is on the Embarcadero, and there is also one in the old BofA building. Miles better than the chain gyms. John Ferguson is a great trainer, and a really cool guy.

Matt, the Bay Club is nice and super near my work, but I don't want to spend close to 400 bucks a month for membership and training.

Mission Bay enrollment is closed, I live two blocks away and it's a year waiting list.

Anyone have any experience with the 3rd St Boxing Gym or the Embarcadero Y?

Misson Bay always says they are closed to new members. My friend signed up a month ago after being on the wait list for 2 weeks.

Really? They said it was a six month waiting list and all they had was a membership good from 8-5pm and on the weekends. Working a full time gig, I said no dice.

Maybe I should call. I live three blocks away from the gym.

My wife works out there. She does enough for the both of us. Recently, I stopped by to use the restroom, so I am starting a new streak.

if you work in the montgomery area (rather than across market), then i recommend club one. it's pretty small but clean and relatively uncrowded. it's also much less expensive than equinox or the la sports club.

I like the Embarcadero Y because it's unpretentious and has few d-bags. One of the highlights is the row of treadmills and bikes along the wall with windows overlooking the Embarcadero and facing out to the bay. Very inspirational to look out and see the bridge and TI rather than a TV screen or brick wall. Also has a roof-top deck with a small (~50M) jogging circuit along with some lounge chairs. During the summer and fall months, I would go up there after a work out to relax and get some sun.

I don't know about any others. I don't know about the personal trainers.

3rd Street Gym it is for me. The place is small, a few machines, it's all about the boxing classes. I sat in on one tonight, looks like a cardio workout from hell.

Can't wait.

Are you f-ing kidding me!

A gym that has a waitlist, costs in the area of $400 a month, and restricts your hours...
