Trafalgar Belts: Made in China!

I was shopping for a belt this past week. I spied a nice Trafalgar belt. I was examining it closely, when I noticed on the tag that it said "designed in Norwalk, CT". My senses aroused, I looked more closely. There, embossed under the price tag, it said in large embossed letters: "MADE IN CHINA". How long has this been the case. True for all their belts now?

How sad.

Its been that way for a while. I have one thats made in China, and I will say it still is of decent quality, but sad indeed.

I've seen those for a while too. There are usually a few that are made in "better" countries mixed in but their number is dwindling.

I was surprised to find that my Hardy fishing bag was 'Made in China'. Now anyone who knows fishing bags will know about Hardy (now known as Hardy-Greys). The chap I bought it from said he had had a lot of compliants and wished he could cut the tag out. I complained to Hardy, and credit to them as a one off they exchanged it for a British made one. They may now be making them in Britain, I'm not sure. I think they were deluged with compliants. There are significant differences beween the Chinese bag and the British, so it's not just a case of patriotism.

With the British Pound and the Euro off their highs, we may see more companies sourcing goods in the UK and Italy for better leather goods. I think some consumers, given the choice would buy from Europe. It isn't an anti Asian thing, it is to support the crafts of Europe.
